We’ve seen lots of interesting “weird tricks” to clean your car, from using hair conditioner to wash the metal to using cola to clean your windshield. You can play around with these oddball novelty approaches if you like, but there is one product that does it all when it comes to your car: spray car wax. Still, these are good for a laugh. Here are five silly ways to clean your car that aren’t as good as using the best car wax you can find.
- Wash your car with hair conditioner. Supposedly, if you use a hair conditioner with lanolin, you’ll get a freshly waxed look that repels rain – you know, just like you get when you use a high quality spray car wax.
- Wash the windows with cola. According to the “experts,” the bubbles will power the dirt off your windows. On the other hand, sugared cola and acid is pretty nasty for your paint job, and if you don’t rinse off the sugar really, really well, your baby will be crawling with bugs. Again, spray on wax will do a far better job, and you don’t have to worry about overspray and leftover sugar.
- Clean your headlights with window cleaner and an old pair of panty hose. Clean headlights are important, but you really don’t need to raid the housecleaning supplies to do it. In fact, the best car wax products will clean and polish your headlights and help keep them clean by repelling water and dirt. In fact, a lot of folks toss out the window cleaner and use the spray car wax to clean all the glass surfaces on their cars and in their homes.
- Clean your windows with baby wipes. Again, there are better ways to clean our windows. Spray-on car wax gently lifts the dirt off the glass surface so you can easily wipe it away, and leaves behind a water-repellent surface that keeps your windshield cleaner.
- Wash your car with baking soda and dishwashing liquid. Baking soda has become the go-to DIY cleaner for just about anything in your house. They call it non-abrasive, but the reality is that is a very mild abrasive that can leave microscopic scratches in the car’s finish. The solution? You guessed it. European style spray waxes are one-step cleaners and detailers. Spray on to loosen and lift dirt. Wipe off, then polish for a high, glossy shine.
If you’re getting the feeling that spray car wax is pretty much a panacea of car cleaning goodness, you’re getting the right idea. In fact, a high quality spray car wax is not just the best car wax you can use, it’s often the best car cleaner for just about every part of your vehicle.
